Opening of a new BOOKS FOR CHANGE library in Nepal

It's that time again and we are happy to show you the pictures of the new library from the Dwarpaleshwor school, Kavre district, in Nepal.

The school was almost completely destroyed after the 2015 earthquake. Built with sustainable resources, this school is about a three-hour drive from Kathmandu. During planning and implementation, the focus was on sustainability and safety. This in cooperation with local specialists and top architects from our partner organization 'Kids of Kathmandu' based in New York and Kathmandu. Especially during this time, hygiene has top priority. That is why the children are made aware of it at school at an early age. The fresh, mineral-rich and clean water comes directly from the mountains of the Himalayas and thanks to a clever fresh water and sewage system, the children, teachers and villagers have unrestricted access to high-quality and clean drinking water.

The school is beautifully situated amidst the hills and mountains of the Himalayas. The library was made possible in collaboration and partnership with 'Kids of Kathmandu' and 'Youth Foundation Nepal'. The school is attended by 153 students, including 84 girls and 69 boys, and offers its services from kindergarten to 10th grade.

The Dwarpaleshwor school is locatedin thecaveDistrict , about 3 hours from Kahmanduaway , beautifulembedded in the Nepaleselandscape .

Wherever and whenever possible, we hire local professionals to fit out the interior of the library for fair and market-driven payment. The students are happy and help.

With the help of Jenny and Bijendra, our two artists from Nepal, the library will be designed according to the theme. The picture shows the immaculate landscape and the subjects are the children's career aspirations (teacher, doctor, soldier engineer, etc.)

All books are marked and registered accordingly so that the library is used sustainably and the children can borrow the books.

Lessons are held regularly in the new library so that reading habits are encouraged. We make sure that the rooms are flooded with enough natural light and that an atmosphere is created that contributes to a positive learning environment.

The library is now complete and the children benefit from a wide range of books in both English and the local language. The new space also serves as a classroom and community space for the village community.

Computer tuition is also up-to-date and important in order to prepare the students accordingly for the future.
