  • Report and visit of the Triveni School (Library) in partnership with TAI

On 29`th August, TAI Foundation, Non-Governmental Organization from Spain along with our Books For Change team visited our library in Trevini Secondary School in Mugling, Nepal.

Total number of books registered in the library till date

181 books has been registered in the library.

Number and nature of activities (reading sessions) recorded in the library

The school has prepared the library routine for until grade five. The records of other classes has not been registered. However according to the teachers, students often visit to the library and choose the book they like to read.

Every class teacher has taken the responsibility to take their students to the library. For the past few months, there were frequent library visits but that has been stopped now since the teachers have to accomplish the regular course curriculum.

According to the library in charge Mr. Suresh Patel (Computer Teacher), different techniques and methods has been used to motivate the students to attract them in the library. For instance; picture presentation through projector.

Number of library sessions conducted till date.

Till date 28 number of library sessions has been conducted with maximum activities of reading, drawing and word competition

Number of books borrowed by the students.

Total 49 books have been borrowed by the students (of grades 4, 5, 6, 7)

Any suggestions/advice by the teachers/Principal on the improvement of the library.

Since children are more attracted towards picture books, Nepali based story books, books based on true stories art/drawing books there is more need of adding such books in the library.

For the improvement of the library, they were looking for the suggestions and techniques applied by other schools observed by the team of Book For change, so that they could apply in their library.

    additional information

    • The school has two libraries; for primary and the secondary classes. The library built by Books for Change is specially used by the students up to grade seven (mostly by primary students). Another library is mostly used by the higher grade students and the teachers)
    • More community people and teachers from other schools are interested about the library built in Triveni School.
    • The school has managed to arrange a day meal system for only 200 students through anonymous sponsor.
    • There is high need to emphasize and motivate parents of Chepang Community to send their children regular to the school and be informed about their children progress. One of the biggest challenges of the school is to deal with parents of Chepang ethnic group as they are ignorant about their children. They hardly put interest in how their children have been performing.
