NEP 21-002 Solar, Library and E-Learning in Dolpa, Nepal
Ranga is located in the lower Dolpa in the district. The village consists of 214 households, most of which belong to the Chettris community. The total population of the village is 1196, of which 514 are male and 655 are female.
The residents earn their income mainly from apples, saffron and agriculture. In addition, the cultivation of grapes and walnuts has recently started.
The place is in a difficult geographical position and there are no accessible roads for vehicles and no electricity network. Harsh climatic conditions prevail with frequent rain and snowfalls. Because of these obstacles, the place has lagged behind in development. The lack of electricity, lack of transportation and unsafe climatic conditions hamper development.
The school runs classes from elementary school through eighth grade. A total of 271 students (136 girls and 135 boys) attend this school, who come from three different villages: the upper village, the middle village and the lower village. The school has eight native teachers, three female and five male teachers.
The school will remain closed for two months during the winter season from mid-December after the annual exams have been held. During this time, the children, together with their families, go in search of Yarsha Gumba, also known as "Himalayan Viagra", and climb up the snow-covered Himalayas with blankets, tents and coke material.
The school is severely affected by the lack of electricity. That's why the lessons on the computer only take place in theory. This will change with the solar system that we are planning to add twenty computers to it.
The school also does not have a library.

Goals of the project
Creation of an exchange, learning and encounter oasis by setting up a school library, including a projector, a fully equipped computer room with 20 computers including pre-installed learning software. In addition, we install a solar system to be able to guarantee the power supply even in the event of regular power cuts in the public grid. Teachers and young people are thus made aware of environmental issues.
With the measures we would like to contribute to quality school education in Dolpa, a remote place in Nepal, and provide the children and teachers with the resources to design varied and interesting lessons so that they can benefit from an effective school education.
What we do
The library is intended to be a play, learn and meeting place for teachers, children and families. There will also be a room for digital learning, equipped with 20 computers equipped with game and learning software. This makes going to school even more attractive for the children and you learn how to use digital tools. The project is rounded off by the installation of a solar system in order to be able to guarantee the power supply even during interruptions in the public grid.

With improved reading and writing skills, students achieve better results in school. They broaden their horizons of knowledge and remain motivated to attend school. With the digital teaching aids, the young people are optimally prepared for the future. The use of audiovisual learning aids makes the lessons more interesting and attractive. The school becomes more attractive to the population and there are fewer school dropouts. The young people remain motivated to learn and thus have better chances of learning a trade or attending secondary school. Thanks to the strengthened reading and writing skills, you will remain informed in later phases of life, take an active part in social life and can stand up for your rights.
The measures will also make lessons more attractive for teachers. They are encouraged to continue their education and have more opportunities and flexibility to make the lessons varied and effective. Through the BOOKS FOR CHANGE further training courses, the teachers take part in a varied and varied program.
