Shree Dharmapur Secondary School was founded in 1960. The school is located in Gulmi, in the heart of Nepal, about 14 hours drive from the capital, Kathmandu. Classes are offered up to the twelfth level. The students come from six surrounding counties of rural communities, some walking up to two hours to reach the school. The school has 24 teachers, including five female and 19 male teachers. It is thanks to the local community that the school has existed for over 60 years. Over time, the school has provided many children with a quality education, enabling them to become responsible and active citizens and to learn a trade.
There has only been a motorable access road to the village for 15 years, which is only passable in the dry season. Electricity is supplied by the local electricity company. However, the infrastructure is so outdated that there are frequent power cuts. The project location is prone to natural disasters such as landslides and lightning strikes. The increasing power outages are a major challenge for the school and the local community. Especially during the monsoon, there is often no electricity for weeks. This also affects the lessons, as during this time the children cannot use the school computers and the rooms are dark, especially during the winter days.

Creation of an exchange, learning and encounter oasis by setting up a school library, including a projector. In addition, we install a solar system to be able to guarantee the power supply even in the event of regular power cuts in the public grid. Teachers and young people are thus made aware of environmental issues.
Through the measures we would like to contribute to quality school education in Gulmi, a remote place in Nepal, and provide the children and teachers with the resources to design varied and interesting lessons so that they can benefit from an effective school education.
The library is intended to be a play, learn and meeting place for teachers, children and families. By installing a solar system, the power supply is guaranteed even during interruptions in the public grid. In addition, the children have good light in the school to learn, even during the cold winter days.
With improved reading and writing skills, students achieve better results in school. They broaden their horizons of knowledge and remain motivated to attend school. The use of audiovisual learning aids makes the lessons more interesting and attractive. The school becomes more attractive to the population and there are fewer school dropouts. The young people remain motivated to learn and thus have better chances of learning a trade or attending secondary school. Thanks to the strengthened reading and writing skills, you will remain informed in later phases of life, take an active part in social life and can stand up for your rights.
The measures will also make lessons more attractive for teachers. They are encouraged to continue their education and have more opportunities and flexibility to make the lessons varied and effective. Through the BOOKS FOR CHANGE further training courses, the teachers take part in a varied and varied program.
